Bagman

The term “bagman” is used to describe a person who acts as an intermediary or messenger, delivering or collecting money or other valuable items on behalf of others.

In many cases, a bagman may be involved in illegal or unethical activities, such as bribery, extortion, or money laundering.

A bagman may play a role in campaign finance, delivering large sums of money from donors to candidates or political organizations.

In some cases, this money — or boodle — may come from illegal sources or be delivered in a way that violates campaign finance or corruption laws.

Bagmen can also play a role in corruption, acting as intermediaries between corrupt officials and individuals or organizations seeking to bribe them.

The role of the bagman is often shrouded in secrecy, and bagmen may work behind the scenes, away from public scrutiny.

This makes it difficult to track their activities and hold them accountable for any illegal or unethical behavior.

In order to combat the influence of bagmen in politics, many countries have implemented laws and regulations aimed at increasing transparency in political funding and limiting the role of intermediaries in political transactions.

These include restrictions on campaign contributions from individuals or organizations with ties to foreign governments, limits on the amount of money that can be contributed by a single donor, and requirements for disclosing the identity of donors.

Rachel Maddow’s had a popular political podcast and book called “Bagman” that told the story of the “wild crimes, audacious cover-up, and spectacular downfall” of Vice President Spiro Agnew.
